Chris Lockley
Director of Analytics
What drew me to Cazoo was the clarity of ambition: becoming the UK’s undisputed number two used car classifieds marketplace, paired with a genuine appetite to build a data-driven culture. Six weeks in, the reality has matched the pitch and then some. What’s surprised me most is how genuinely people-focused the culture is investing in manager development, OKR training, and practical GenAI workshops that prove Cazoo is committed to growing its people.
Living our Fearless value
Being 'Fearless' means challenging the status quo and trusting the organization will back you when you do. As a new Director, I was encouraged to move quickly from day one—establishing our Analytics Centre of Excellence, defining our team vision, and introducing new ceremonies. None of that happens in a culture that punishes pace or pushback.
Culture in actionOne of our most exciting projects is optimizing lead distribution across 6,000+ Dealer Partners. On the surface, it’s a routing problem, but really it's about consumer intent and stock-matching at scale. We have Commercial, Product, and Marketing Analysts all pulling in the same direction toward a problem that genuinely moves the needle. The energy and craft this team brings gives me massive confidence as we layer in Data Science and ML capabilities.
Perks that matter
Two things stand out: first, the real investment in professional growth through structured workshops and GenAI training. Second, the cadence of team get-togethers. In a hybrid working world, our intentionally designed open-plan office, catered refreshments, and periodic company-wide social events are how culture actually gets built.
Joining the Analytics team
If you want to do meaningful analytics work on problems that genuinely matter, Cazoo is the place to be. We work with a modern stack, Databricks, dbt, Git, Power BI, answering real commercial questions with a clear runway into Data Science and ML. I look for Analysts who are curious, commercially minded, and not afraid to challenge a brief if they think there's a better question to ask.
Overcoming our biggest challenge
Our biggest challenge is balancing immediate tactical insights with long-term strategic work. It's easy to chase every ad-hoc request, but establishing our Analytics Centre of Excellence gives us the structure to separate urgent requests from the strategic work that makes us 10x more capable. Quick wins matter, but so does delivering insights that unlock sustainable competitive advantage.
